Together since 1997 breakbeat duo Soma Rasa are known for their dark and twisted take on all things that are broken. On the way to releasing an album later this year they have hooked up with some old skool hip hop fave’s for a dam funky party jam.

Soma Rasa have had quite a bit of success in this country with a largely instrumental sound, however I was excited by the addition of one of hip hop’s forgotten party crews - Digital Underground - on this single, and I wasn’t disappointed!

Firstly to the beat - this is breakbeat with a fair old helping of electro, and the BPMs move along at an impressive rate with enough squelchy flare that the instrumental mix found here is strong enough to survive on its own. In fact I even forgave the use of a ridiculous old pop song for the chorus by the second listen.

Lyrically are where this really comes into its own though, DU have always been witty and innovative MCs and all four deliver. Riding the beat as if it was a down tempo plodder each MC shows the charisma that has kept their fan base tight despite far to sporadic releases over the last 15 years. This is undeniably funky and already is copping a hammering on radio and no doubt dancefloors Australia wide.

Also included here is a heavily house and electro remix of I like it and a Crunk remix of the single that to be honest doesn’t sound a hell of a lot different. The quality of Soma Rasa’s work has always spoken for itself and you can only hope they continue down the vocal path and reap the benefits in the not to distant future.
